A New Chapter in Dairying Being Written in Wisconsin

August 10, 2007 ---- Wagner Dairy in Middleton, Wisconsin is a prime example of how Pro-Act Microbial’s technology has not only helped them in the past but is partnering with them to usher in the future of dairying.

When Wagner Dairy began using Pro-Act in 2003, they were facing disgruntled neighbors and environmental pressures. Today they have no more complaints from neighbors and odors are way down. Now Wagner Dairy is on its way to open a new chapter in dairying with the help of Pro-Act’s system.

Wagner Dairy will be installing the Pro-Act’s ITS (Ideal Treatment System) by enhancing their current Pro-Act system with the addition of two processing tanks. This green technology facilitates the collection of biogas and provides farmers with options to manage the nutrients. Pro-Act’s research has proven this cutting-edge system to be much more affordable and easier to operate than anything that is currently on the market.

“We’ve wanted to do this for a while,” explains Tom Wagner, partner in the dairy along with his brothers. “We have investigated other digesters but the initial cost and the maintenance involved was intimidating. We’ve been working with Pro-Act to manage our manure for four years and it’s changed a lot of things around here for the better. We’ve decided to give their new Ideal Treatment System a go.”

Wagner dairy has the option to use the collected biogas as a source of green energy. They will also have the option of burning off the gasses and earning carbon credits.

“We’re excited to get this going,” says Bill Campion, president of Pro-Act Microbial. “This new technology will bring digesters, biogas collection, nutrient management and odor reduction within reach of so many more farms. The ITS concept turns manure management that was formerly an expense into a profit center. Not only can they profit from it, they’ll be doing their part to protect the environment.”
